The Life Sciences GmbHs CeMM - Research Center for Molecular Medicine GmbH, GMI - Gregor Mendel Institute for Molecular Plant Biology GmbH and IMBA - Institute for Molecular Biotechnology GmbH, which are all based in Vienna, are 100% subsidiaries of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. They are focused on curiosity-driven basic research in molecular biology, molecular medicine, and molecular plant research.
R&D:CeMM: Biomedical research with a focus on cancer, immune diseases and infectious diseases. GMI: Plant research with a focus on epigenetics, cell biology, plant-pathogen interactions, developmental biology and population genetics. IMBA: Biomolecular research with a focus on human organoids as a model for physiological and pathophysiological processes as well as gene regulation and nuclear architecture.
Services:The life sciences institutes of the ÖAW offer specific services for cooperation partners and other organizations in the areas of know-how about biomedical and plant research as well as biomolecular methods. They also provide infrastructures and hold informative, subject-specific events for the public.
