The European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT) is an independent institution of the European Union, founded in 2008 to promote innovation and entrepreneurship across Europe. Since 2014, the network initiative has also been active in the field of health in Europe. EIT Health is currently working with around 100 members in a "public-private partnership" to find solutions to the major healthcare challenges of our time. Leading companies, public institutions as well as renowned universities and research institutions are working together with start-ups and SMEs in innovative programmes and projects to develop new products and services that promote a sustainable health economy in Europe. The aim of EIT Health is to close the innovation gap in the life science sector.

EIT Health Austria is one of a total of eight EIT Health centres in Europe and currently supports around 20 organisations from industry, research and education in Austria, including Boehringer Ingelheim, Med Uni Graz, MavieNext, the Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaft, as well as start-ups and SMEs in the development of groundbreaking innovations in healthcare. With the "HealthGateway.Austria" project, EIT Health Austria also operates an innovation laboratory in Vienna funded by the FFG, which increasingly integrates Austrian companies and organisations in the life science sector into the activities of EIT Health.
