Profile

The University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna in Austria is one of the leading academic and research institutions in the field of Veterinary Sciences in Europe. About 1,500 employees and 2,500 students work on the campus in the north of Vienna which also houses five university clinics and various research sites. R&D:The Vetmeduni Vienna undertakes research in a wide range of life science topics that can be broadly grouped into six areas: i) physiological and pathophysiological processes, particularly with regard to signal transduction at the interface of health and disease; ii) infectious diseases and their prevention; iii) animal models; iv) food safety and risk assessment; v) population genetics; and vi) animal behaviour and the human-animal interaction, with a particular emphasis on animal cognition.

Services:The core facility VetCore provides services for commercial partners, preferably in co-operation with Vetmeduni Vienna research groups. It is structured into five units, the VetBioBank (collecting biological samples and associated data of animal origin), the Genomics, Transcriptomics, Proteomics, and VetImaging. The VetFarm, located in Lower Austria, offers a modern, flexible basic infrastructure for research projects in the fields of livestock medicine and livestock science.
