Profile

The University of Graz is one of the oldest universities in central Europe dating back to 1585. Despite of its long tradition it is a modern and renowned research institution. High level basic and applied research is conducted by about 3.200 researchers well embedded in an international network of co-operation. This builds an optimal learning and training environment for about 30.000 students in more than 120 fields of study.

R&D:The focus of research at the University of Graz is particularly on five Fields of Excellence distinguished by outstanding achievements, international successes and socially relevant topics. Researchers are linking up across the traditional faculty boundaries to explore responses to major questions, and develop new kinds of strategies that will help to shape future developments. The Fields of Excellence are complemented by Research Networks and individual research.

Services:University of Graz provides several services and facilities to support research activities and co-operations with scientific and commercial partners. These include a number of core facilities and large-scale equipment in the fields of life sciences. Also, there is shared research infrastructure operated within the inter-university initiatives NAWI Graz and BioTechMed-Graz. Furthermore, Uni Graz offers services for knowledge and technology transfer to support co-operations with industry.
