 About us:
CEMIT is an R&D management company which focuses on life sciences, medicine and health IT. The mission of CEMIT is to provide management services to both local and international research partners from academia and industry in order to develop collaborative inter-sectoral projects.

The primary objectives of CEMIT are:

• providing management services such as project and programme management, building-up of inter-sectoral consortia, development of grant proposals, coordination and financial administration of large-scale projects and competence centres, protection of research results, dissemination and communication services
• organisation of training, workshops, meetings and congresses
• providing support services for transfer of technologies from academia to enterprises
• networking and matchmaking between academic and industrial partners
• consulting on the topics of health related R&D cooperation between academia and industry

 Research & Development:
CEMIT focuses on offering R&D management services for research groups at regional universities and SMEs for the implementation of collaborative projects. In line with its focus, CEMIT possesses long-standing experience in the management of inter-sectoral research projects, especially in the coordination of international, multi-partner research projects in medicine, health IT and a broad range of life science disciplines. The main tasks in managing research projects are: general management and coordination, monitoring and evaluation, financial administration, communication with funding bodies, organization of meetings, events and congresses, supervision of reporting and dissemination of project results.
CEMIT manages large research projects and programmes, including FP6 (STREP Growthstop) and FP7 (IP Tolerage) projects. Between 2006-2009, two competence centres (KMT and HITT) and 10 cross-sectoral, collaborative projects with a total budget of 79 million € were managed by CEMIT. At present, CEMIT has 16 FTE’s (full time equivalents) who manage 30 individual projects with a total volume of approx. 45 million €, including two EU projects and the excellence centre ONCOTYROL (COMET-Programme).
In addition, CEMIT provides support services such as tailored training courses on various aspects of R&D management and cross-sectoral cooperation between academia and industry, consulting on the topic of funding instruments, negotiation of contracts and agreements between academia and industry, and screening for inventions in view of protection (IPR) and commercialization of research results.
As an intermediary of open innovation, CEMIT contributes to the economic development of the province of Tyrol. In 2005, CEMIT (formerly KMT) founded “the life science cluster Tyrol”, which currently comprises of 25 SME’s in fields of biotech, medical technology, pharma and health-IT. The majority of the cluster members are involved in the collaborative projects managed by CEMIT. By means of cluster management, CEMIT contributed significantly to the growth of life science industry in the province of Tyrol. Regional development in the life science segment has been documented in a regional study written by CEMIT employees. CEMIT currently has regular contact with approx. 40 SMEs (Austrian and international) which are partners in various collaborative projects.
Finally, CEMIT provides consulting on various topics of R&D cooperation between academia and industry. Our services involve consulting with regard to funding instruments, defining and controlling of the project budget, screening for inventions in scientific publications, advice regarding protection of research results, patenting and licensing of IPR, hands-on negotiation of project agreements between academic and industrial partners, as well as consulting on associated legal and financial issues (project personnel, investments on equipment, infrastructure, cash and in-kind contributions, overheads, etc.).
