Traumacare

The primary mission of the Medical University of Vienna is to serve research and education in the broadest sense. It seeks advances in medical science to cure and relieve the symptoms of illness, maintain health, and foster social prosperity in a thriving environment.
The focus of science of the Department is translational research. Several study groups try to improve the surgical outcome of bone and joint procedures.

The defined emphasis of the Trauma Research Laboratories at the Department for Traumatology is cell biology. Furthermore the scientific activities comprise:
- fracture healing and bone regeneration
- implant design in hand and shoulder surgery
- biomechanical analysis of fracture pattern

The Department for Traumatolgy of the Medical University of Vienna, at the General Hospital Vienna, is considered as a level 1 trauma centre and outpatient care for traumatized patients.
The institution represents a major learning centre for pre- and postgraduate education.

The Department for Traumatology of the Medical University of Vienna, maintains scientific co-operations with numerous hospitals at home and abroad. Also we organise similar national and international congresses and symposia.
